Maximum Performance Basketball School, Inc. (MPBSI) is a 501 (c) (3) not for profit agency founded to improve quality of life and prevent alcohol, tobacco, and drug use as well as self-defeating behaviors in children and young people. Our primary goal is to promote academic excellence, therby helping disadvantaged and under served youth gain a college education and establish professional careers. Since 1988, the founder, James E. Brown, has used basketball fundamentals to teach critical thinking, discipline, and personal development. He began MPBSI as the non-profit arm of James E. Brown Basketball School officially in 2001 to reach students 3rd grade-college in under served areas across North Texas. The program targets children who are at high risk for school drop out, substance abuse, or criminal involvement and aids an average of 300 children annually. Fifty nine percent are female and eighty three percent are minorities. Twenty percent are in the 3rd through the 6th grades, twenty five percent in 7th through 8th grades, and fifty five percent in 9th through 12th grade.
